The sign on the door says Giinagay, a traditional welcome in the Gumbaynggirr language. This is Traditionally Grounded, a café opened by the Nambucca Heads Local Aboriginal Land Council (NLALC) in two shops leased from the ILC in Nambucca Heads, NSW.
The cafe opened in February and currently employs 11 Indigenous people with disabilities. With a focus on organic coffee and high quality homemade food it has quickly built up a strong and regular clientele. Louise Robinson, a spokesperson from the NLALC said the café had boosted the employees “confidence, self esteem, and economic wellbeing”.
