  • CANCELLED: Bellingen Farmers and Producers Market

CANCELLED: Bellingen Farmers and Producers Market

    Wednesday, April 1, 2020 3:30pm - 6:00pm
    85 Hyde Street

    IMPORTANT NOTICE:
We started this weekly market last year because working towards creating a strong local food system for our region is one of the most important things we can do for our community and planet.

Buying your local, fresh, seasonal and nourishing food from an outdoor market is much safer than from any supermarket or of the like, esp in such health circumstances we are facing globally today. Furthermore, these markets are considered by Feb Govt to be an essential service.

In saying all this, we are sad to say that for the first 4 weeks of April, our weekly Wednesday afternoon Bellingen Farmers and Producers Market will be taking a break.
This is driven by the current circumstances we are all facing and hasn't been an easy decision at all.

The reasons why we have made this extremely tough and complex decision are:
1)we have had a number of conversations with health professionals in the region and they are requesting these events are put on hold at this moment for the health and welling of our community...so we have listened.

2)our fresh produce growers have had huge orders with their online orders since covid-19 and as they have come from drought, to managing water supplies, fires and floods, their crops are not growing as quickly or in full production as usual at this time of year....so their usual supplies are lower at market due to the popularity of their online boxes

    3) we moved venue to a location in town last week and in these current circumstances, at times during the market last week, it felt a bit too tight with the numbers of patrons being super excited to get such amazing produce directly from our growers and food producers

    4) we are on the move again and we need time to get ourselves organised for our new location (all in the pipeline as we speak)

We know this will be very disappointing for many of our followers, and for this, we are deeply apologetic. We hope you understand our decision at such difficult times.

When we do return, we'll be in a much stronger position to provide even more food for our community. Our fantabulous growers and food producers will need you back in full swing with great gusto and support.

We'll keep you up to date with our news as we have it. Please keep following us.

In the meantime, over the next few days we'll be posting where you can access our producers online for home deliveries.

You can always pop into Kombu Wholefoods for your shopping of nearly all produce and products from our stall holders from the market in the meantime. Remember, supporting local businesses is always important, but even more at this critical time.

We'll be in touch....and if you have any offers of assistance for our coming move or to help the market in any way, now and in the future, please message the FB and we'll respond as soon as possible.

Sending you all much care and hugs
    Louise and the Market Team
