The Nambucca Valley has all the right ingredients for an active and fun holiday, no matter what your age. With an annual average temperature around 20 degrees you will find that there is never a shortage of ways to enjoy the great outdoors at any time of the year. Apart from all things aquatic there are a number of activities popular with locals and visitors alike and these can often be combined with a scenic drive to one of the many small towns and villages in the area. Golf and bowls are always popular.
Golfers have the choice of three golf courses. Certainly one of the more unique opportunities is a round of golf at the Nambucca Island Golf Club
. The 18 hole course is set on an island, Stuart Island, right in the heart of Nambucca Heads and the Nambucca River. For more traditional settings golfers can tee off at either Macksville Country Club
or the Bowraville Recreation Club
. Bowraville Recreation Club provides a choice of activities. Its 9 hole golf course is a challenge in a very scenic setting and there is a regular Saturday competition for those who want more than a leisurely hit. There are two bowling greens, croquet green and 2 squash courts available for hire. You will spy the picturesque Macksville Country Club as you drive along the highway and golfers can warm up or work on their stroke at the Driving Range before tackling the 10 hole course.
If you feel like a walk the pathway and boardwalks from Nambucca Plaza to the entrance of the Nambucca River provide a circuit for either a power walk or a stroll. Nearby the meandering paths in Gordon Park Rainforest
provide an opportunity to appreciate the tranquillity and natural wonder right in the centre of town. If you are serious about walking, Kyeewa Bushwalkers conduct regular walks in local and nearby areas – graded easy, medium and hard (hard can be bloody hard!) Another option is to take a ramble with the “Birdo’s” – Nambucca Valley Bird Watchers
conduct regular outings and welcome visitors.
Another dimension is added when you explore the waterways. There are numerous launching sites along the river Tinnies can be hired from Beachcomber Marine.
If you require more of an adrenalin rush then there is something for all ages just north up the Pacific Highway at the Raleigh Raceway and Recreation Park. The course covers 1.1 kilometres and speeds on the hire karts can reach up to 65 km/hour. The Park also has two waterslides, an 18 hole mini golf course and other play equipment. Very popular in recent times is the “Big Foot” Tractor Ride which is 20 minutes of pure fun and laughter. This is the ideal place to bring the family or the grandkids and what’s more it is open 7 days a week.
For something a little more sedate then why not take a bush tucker tour at Valley of the Mist. There are three different tours incorporating the opportunity to taste products as well as learn much about Aussie bush tucker. There are also wetland and wildlife tours available which also sample gourmet bush tucker.
