Comet Windmills Australia Pty Ltd.

Wind is a powerful energy resource that is freely available and will never run out.
Australia is rated as one of the best wind resource sites in the world.
The technology to harvest energy from wind has been used successfully for hundreds of years and is being widely used around the world today.

By choosing a renewable energy powered pump you ARE reducing your impact on the environment.

Comet Windmills Australia is a proud supporter of renewable energy in all forms that eliminate the need for fossil fuel based energy. Wind, and other renewable energy sources are all naturally occurring and inexhaustible, unlike fossil fuels such as diesel, gas and coal fired electricity.

It is interesting to note that Comet windmills are 100% recyclable with a known life span of over 50 years with little attention.

Windmills can be placed anywhere to access water. There are no limitations on site conditions for a windmill to work efficiently.
The many applications where Comet Windmills have been used include; domestic water; pumping from any water source -deep bores, shallow wells, rivers, dams; livestock watering; irrigation; dewatering; effluent transfer; aquaculture; horticulture and viticulture; educational; eco tourism.

Government rebates are available for renewable energy products. Conditions apply. Check Department of the Environment, Water, Heritages & the Arts www.environment.gov.au/rebates and the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator www.orer.gov.au.

Call us to find out if we can help with your water needs. A trouble free, low maintenance windmill might be the solution you need.

With electricity and fuel prices set to rise steeply over the next 3 years a windmill is a cheap investment. Free energy from the wind to supply water for domestic, stock and irrigation purposes.

Stop paying for electricity and fuel, save money now with a Comet Windmill.

Crosswinds Wetlands Reserve- Wetlands Boardwalks & Picnic Area, Macksville
In 1893 William and Christina Field selected 85 acres of land and built a settler's cottage on the rise overlooking this wetland which formed part of the property "Crosswinds". They cleared and fenced the land, commenced farming and raised a large family.

The original settler's cottage was later demolished and the timber used to construct the similar styled " Mary Boulton's Pioneer Cottage" in River Street Macksville.

Over the years and today the wetlands have been kept isolated from grazing livestock, this has encouraged the environment to flourish with native and exotic trees and grasses.

Visit the wetlands for a walk or picnic and learn about the aboriginal significance of this area.

Gordon Park Rainforest & Nature Walks Nambucca Hds
The Gordon Park Rainforest & Nature Walks of Nambucca Heads meander through a regenerating remnant rainforest and are uniquely located in the midst of the residential area.

The walks are not arduous, but why not linger a while as well, just sitting around relaxing and enjoying the magnificent natural environment of this unique coastal bush land, so close to town.

While sitting quietly, look for the eastern yellow robin and the rufous fantail or some of the many other local and migratory birds that make this forest their home.

While walking along, listen for the whip-bird and the cat-bird. Notice the changes in the vegetation, from the eucalyptus and brush box on the drier ridges to the many number of rainforest species as you move down the slopes to the wetter and more protected areas, finally reaching the melaleucas, figs and callistemons in the swampy parts. Be sure not to miss the pioneers well.

Where thickets of lantana and intruding camphor laurels have been removed, we've been helping the regeneration process with plantings of local varieties. The arboretum at the northern end of the tennis courts is a special case; it was planted with rainforest species from other parts of NSW and QLD for educational purposes.

Enjoy the forest and the vistas that can be glimpsed along the way and please leave only your footprints behind you.

Get the full experience

To begin with you may enjoy a wonderfully relaxing wobble on the Zen Chi machine.

The Zen Chi machine is a device used to stimulate the body in order to improve one's health. It produces a motion through the body, similar to a swimming fish, which opens the vertebrae alleviating stress and tension on the spinal column.

The Zen Chi machine's rhythmic motion is core driven, producing a metrical displacement which sends a balanced energy wave through the body. This unique wave-like motion replicates exercise and promotes the flow of blood to capillary banks in all extremities of the body, restoring supply to areas that may have suffered poor circulation. A great way to begin a treatment - brings you into focus and begins to relax the mind and the body.

Body Brushing

Or you may like to have your body brushed from the tips of your toes to the top of your head - just a beautifully stimulating exfoliation, beneficial for lymphatic system and rejuvenating for the skin.

Products

There is magic in oil -Jo has found amazing benefits for her clients in adding Magnesium oil to her massage oil - the powerful benefits of mag oil are worth understanding. This oil is a huge key element to our state of well being - this vital mineral helps relax and maintain normal muscle activity - feeds the nervous system - it is the anti-stress and anti-aging mineral magnesium is vital for athletes or those who exercise regularly as this mineral is lost through sweat - helps reduce fatigue and stress from strenuous exercise and work. And the best way to get Magnesium into the body is through the skin transdermally.

Australian Magnesium Chloride Oil is available to purchase.

Perry's Lemon Myrtle
All of Perry’s Lemon Myrtle products contain pure Lemon Myrtle Oil, which is helpful as an antibacterial, antiviral and germicidal ingredient and extracted from the Australian native tree “Backhousia Citriodora”(Lemon Myrtle Tree). Research by the Charles Sturt University has shown its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties to be more effective than the better known Australian Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca Alternanthera).

Seisen University in Tokyo, Japan has demonstrated the oil is effective in treating Herpes. Lemon Myrtle Oil is a superior source of Citral ( 95%) compared with Lemon oil extracted from Lemon peel (3-10%); Lemongrass oil contains 75% of Citral.

A Chromo graphic profile is available detailing over 50 compounds contained within Lemon Myrtle oil, all other compounds being quite safe.

Flash point - 99 Celsius Specific Density/Gravity - 0.880 - 0.910 @20 Celsius.

Therapeutic Uses

Excellent for foodstuffs and medicinal therapeutic purposes; perfumes, food flavourings, confectionary and aromatherapy. The leaves can be used in cooking, or infused and made into a tea.

Perhaps best of all aromatherapists can discover that when Lemon Myrtle oil is used in their practice, they will find an overwhelming response of how 'beautiful' the fragrance is to all that inhale it. Preliminary research is showing the oil and its wonderful fragrance to be anti depressive and genuinely uplifting.

Therapeutic Actions

Antisepitc, anti-viral, calmative, sedative and corrective

Lemon Myrtle Leaf and Oil Serving Ideas

  • Add to curries or Asian dishes in place of lemongrass or Kaffir lime leaves
  • Add to salad dressings
  • Use in stirfries, sauces and soups
  • Great in marinades for chicken and seafood
  • Baked or smoked with fish
  • Herbal Teas
  • Aromatherpy and "Herbal Medicine"
  • Chocolates
  • Soaps and Disinfectants

Volatility

Oil should be stored in a dark glass container in a cool dry storage area or kept under refrigeration. Exposure to sunlight will also lead to oil deterioration. The oil volatises when heated and so should not be exposed to heat. For convenience and prevention of over use it can be added to other oils. The oil bonds well with vitamin E or vitamin A based products. Direct contact of 100% pure oil on the skin will cause a burning feeling on the skin. In pure concentrated form, consumption will cause harm.

Star Hotel Macksville
About the Star Hotel
The Partridge family has a starring role in Hotel refurbishment, having been involved in sucessfully renovations not only this Hotel, but also the Federal Hotel in Bellingen, in which they still have an interest ,the Coast Hotel in Coffs Harbour, hotels in Kempsey, Nambucca Heads, Armidale and more recently Ballina.

We originally bought the Star Hotel in december 2001 with partner Steve McEvoy and sold a lease to Peter and Sally Williams in 2003. In September last year, we bought the lease back and began transforming the Star into a beautiful Family Hotel & were really excited to see it completed Jenny said.

Jenny and her husband John now own the Star in partnership with sons Ben and Adam. From top to bottom, the Hotel has a new look, its much more open and inviting, with a variety of seating options for example banquette seating in the bistro adjacent a new "picture window"with a fern filled courtyard outlook.

The Beer Garden has, not been overlooked either. It now seats 50 people comfortably and features a "pavilion style" roof that compliments the Hotel beautifully and makes for year round use of this area. The beer garden also has great views of the Nambucca Riverand with a Tiny Tots play area it's now a great spot for family functions and other special events Jenny said.

Finally, the magnificient verandahs offer sweeping views up and down the Nambucca River, with the upstairs verandah comfortably seating 60, plus a delightful adjoining lounge for that quiet cocktail . The upstairs verandah is accessed via new sweeping staircase and with new sound and lighting, and decor this is a fantastic area for your next lunch or dinner outing and should be considered for that special function. Our son Adam and his bride Kendall, chose this area to be married on Valentine's day.

The Historic Coach House Inn

The Historic Coach House Bowraville can accommodate up to 22 people.

It has 11 rooms including:
- 6 Double Rooms
- 2 Single Rooms
- 2 Twin Rooms
- 1 Family Room (Sleeps 4)
The upper reaches of the Nambucca River was the home of the Gumbaynggir for many thousands of years before cedar getters arrived in the valley in1830.

By the late 1800's more than 30,000 bags of corn and 2 million super feet of timber was shipped annually from "Bowra" and by then the population was 110. The new settlers were basically subsistence farmers and their early income came from cedar and later corn and dairy.

The town of Bowra, as it was original named, grew out of the forest next to the river. The cedar and later hardwood logs were delivered by bullock to wharves in Bowraville and punted down river to Nambucca Heads.

This magnificent two story establishment was built in 1896 originally as a hotel and as quoted In 1899 the proprietor Robert Mc Dougall boasted the Royal Hotel offers accommodation equal to any on the coast with good tables, good wines, good stables and attentive grooms."

Establishments like this were originally built to board single men until they married and the wife demanded a "Home to live in."

It's a credit to the new owners and licensees from 2002 that that offer still stands today though it's now called "The Historic Coach House Inn."

The stables and memorabilia still exists around the courtyard, like the timber getters saws, horse gear and coach wheels---it's still here, a rare sight.

Although restored, almost all the original architectural features are still in evidence, like the lacework and the verandas. All that's gone are the people of yesteryear.

There are many stories that can be told around the open fire in the old dining room. And the presence of the pioneers still lingers.

Glenn and Michelle are the new pioneers in Bowraville keeping guard over your history so you can still enjoy, reminisce and wonder what it was like back then.

The accommodation varies from single to family rooms and four-poster beds and our chefs and bakers produce, daily, fine fare for the restaurant and bistro.

Sleep tight and comfy, take in the sights around town, travel the river, traverse the hills and swim the surf, it's all around.

Valley of the Mist
Imagine the silence of acres of pristine wetlands, a silence broken only by the calls of the native birds and the dip of a canoe paddle. This is just one of the many delights awaiting you at the Valley of the Mist located at 88 Congarinni North Road, Talarm, about 5 kilometers out of Macksville.

A working farm, comprising 106 acres, the Valley has been run for generations, initially by the Spalding family, now by the family of Dennis and Marilyn Ryan.

Now entirely devoted to farming using sustainable and environmentally friendly methods, Dennis works with nature to manage a native tree orchard, which includes lillipilli, lemon myrtle, Davidson plum, aniseed myrtle, Dorrigo pepper and macadamia.

Much of the fruit and foliage they produce is turned into gourmet bushtucker on the farm near Macksville, including salad dressings, jams, marinades and sauces.

All of this the rare and beautiful East Coast wetlands and the sustainable orchards tucked into the remains of rain forest can be sampled by tour or taste.

Valley of the Mist offers seasonal Walking and Bushtucker Tours and Tastings as well as a unique Canoe Tour of the acres of wetlands. As Dennis says: It a wondrous place. I still get joy out if it.

As one visitor said:" What a brilliant way to spend a day".

Bowraville Theatre
History of the Theatre

The Bowraville Theatre was built in 1940 and like many -picture shows- in country towns, was at the hub of the social activity on a Saturday night.

Like many businesses in country towns, it operated as a racially devided business. Aboriginals had to not only buy their tickets separately, enter the Theatre by a separate side entrance, occupy inferior seating below an interior partition, but they had to do this after the program had begun.

The building was given a second lease of live, as "the Remant Basket." in the late 1960s. It went through several changes over a number of years until it eventually later fell into disrepair.

Eventually a few local people who were interested in the community and in various fields of the art, saw the need for a live performance venue in the area. In 2000, their dreams began to turn to reality. They built awareness in the community and a public meeting was held in the foyer of the Theatre.

Over 100 people attended the meeting about saving the Theatre. They voted unanimously to form a group with the aim of restoring the Theatre and providing a venue for cultural activities.

From this meeting, the Bowraville Arts Council was established. One of its first projects was to set up a cinema task force to plan to purchase and restore the cinema. The building was purchased, in the name of the Nambucca Shire Council, in October 2001, and restoration plans began.

Since that time the Bowraville Arts Council members have raised around $ 650,000. This includes grant from the Commonwealth, State and Local Governments, plus fundraising, from social events, shows, raffles and the like.

Members and friends from the town have also contributed thousands of dollars in unpaid labour to achieve the impressive restoration.

On Friday 29 August 2003, the Bowraville Theatre re-opened its doors. The indigenous community held a smoking ceremony and performed a welcome dance. It was an event celebrated by the whole town and since then, the Theatre has been the venue for a remarkable variety of film and stage performances. The Theatre is run by a dedicated team of volunteers from the Arts Council and it has gone from strenght to strenght hosting plays, concerts, workshops and fashion parades.

BOX OFFICE CAFE

The Box Office Cafe opend Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays as well as for all firlms, live shows and theatre events. It serves delicious cappuccinos, teas and soft drinks, a variety of cakes and light refreshments. it is a vital part of the Theatre. Originally set up by volunteers, the Box Office Cafe is now professionally managed.
